Established in 1972, Satellites is a volunteer-run competitive swimming club. We are affiliated to Swim England North West Region, Cheshire County Water Polo and Swimming Association and the North Midlands Amateur Swimming Association.
Satellites operates in the Premier Division of the North West Arena League. Our squads consist of swimmers of all ages and levels and trains them and prepares them for competition at club, county, regional, national and even international level.
We are proud to be a Swim England disability Hub Club. We provide assessment opportunities for anyone with a disability who is interested in getting involved with swimming. Within either our club or swimming lessons programme, swimmers with a disability are incorporated into the appropriate squad or class level in exactly the same way as our able bodied swimmers. There are very few disabilities that would not allow a swimmer to be included in regular club training programmes or lessons, and in these situations we would assess the individuals requirements.
We are always on the look out for new and aspiring talent, generally looking for swimmers up to and including 16 years of age who have a desire to commit and swim competitively.
We operate an Academy which acts as an intermediary from the Swim England Learn to Swim scheme to a competitive environment. This best helps to equip swimmers with the specific skills necessary to swim competitively. Whether you come from the local learn to swim schemes or not is irrelevant, as long as you are at least a stage 5 or equivalent in the National Learn to Swim Scheme and you wish to swim competitively.
Swimmers at Satellites must be prepared to dedicate time to consistently attending their allocated training sessions and be prepared to work hard when they are at training; however, the rewards are numerous for the commitment involved. Swimmers will get fitter, develop competitive instincts, meet people of their own age, develop excellent life skills such as determination and learning to deal with success and disappointment but most of all they will have fun!
We encourage swimmers from other smaller clubs who may not have the necessary pool time in order to reach their goals. In this case we actively encourage the representation of both clubs in competition and also encourage swimmers to attend both clubs training sessions. This helps to develop more well rounded swimmers and keeps swimmers firmly connected with their grass roots. Alternatively for swimmers who wish to swim at a lower competitive level or for fitness, Satellites have links with other smaller local clubs who would be better suited to their needs. We recognise that not everyone has the same goals and we look to assist wherever possible!
